Devlog 11: Production
These past couple weeks my team and I have been focusing on getting the main game loop implemented. When I initially discussed this it was only with one other person, so I was delighted when we had our next group meeting and everyone agreed that's what we needed to do. I really struggled with my group last year, so I really appreciate my current group and how things have been going.
The idea was to get the the game in a finished state because this was our last chance to test if players were getting our message. It was something we probably should have focused on earlier but lost sight of. Definitely a note for next time! In order to achieve our goal, all code that was going in needed to support the art, narrative, and/or sound. Anything else would be saved for after the playtest. I'm super impressed with everything we were able to get done, especially in such a short amount of time! The art, narrative, and sound really enhanced the game. It's very exciting to see so much progress, even though we were making a lot of progress before, it was just mostly under the hood, so it was much harder to see.
For me personally, I worked on getting sound implemented. This did require a bit of code for dialogue popups, but that was the extent of it. I got it all ready to be hooked up to progress the player made, as well as create a proper menu loop, switching from an introduction scene to the game scene. I also prepped a closing scene, that then will take the player back to the main menu.
